Vol 8, No 2 (2026): April - June 2026

Issue Description

This thematic issue of Phenomena Journal is dedicated to Gestalt Trauma Therapy, bringing together theoretical, clinical, and review contributions that examine psychological trauma from phenomenological, relational, and interdisciplinary perspectives.

The issue explores trauma as a disruption of the continuity of experience, an interruption of contact, and a disturbance within the organism–environment field, reflecting the contemporary evolution of Gestalt psychotherapy. The contributions address a broad range of topics, including the transgenerational transmission of trauma, the embodied and neurobiological dimensions of traumatic experience, trauma-informed clinical practice, the prevention of retraumatization, developmental and educational applications, and the relational, social, and ecological contexts in which psychological suffering emerges and is transformed.

Particular attention is devoted to the dialogue between Gestalt theory and other scientific disciplines, including neuroscience, psychotraumatology, attachment theory, epigenetics, and evidence-based trauma research. Across the articles, trauma is understood not merely as an individual event but as a complex phenomenon embedded within interpersonal, cultural, and environmental systems, requiring integrative approaches that combine embodied awareness, emotional regulation, relational safety, and experiential transformation.

Taken together, the contributions collected in this thematic issue highlight the richness of contemporary Gestalt Trauma Therapy and its capacity to engage with current developments in psychotherapy research and clinical practice. By fostering dialogue among different theoretical traditions and clinical perspectives, they contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of trauma and support the development of increasingly integrated, person-centered, and field-sensitive models of care.
