Author Guidelines
How to structure your article
Template
We encourage authors to prepare and submit their manuscripts using Microsoft Word, following the Phenomena Journal template provided.
Manuscript Length
Phenomena Journal encourages authors to carefully adhere to the word count limits provided on the "Article Types" page of the journal. The manuscript length limit pertains solely to the main body of the text, footnotes, and all in-text citations, excluding the abstract, section headings, figure and table captions, funding statements, acknowledgments, and references.
Language Style
The default language style in Phenomena Journal is American English. If authors would like their article to be formatted in British English, please indicate it on the first page of the manuscript. For any questions regarding style, Phenomena Journal recommends that authors refer to the Chicago Manual of Style.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Here are some easy ways to increase the visibility of your article:
- Include some of your article's keywords in the title.
- Avoid using overly long article titles.
- Choose 5 to 8 keywords, using a mix of general and more specific terms related to the topic of your article.
- Incorporate the maximum number of keywords in the first two sentences of the abstract.
- Use some of the keywords in level 1 headings.
Title
The title of the manuscript must be concise, avoid implicit terms, and, where possible, clearly state the main result or conclusion presented in the manuscript. Abbreviations should not be used in the title.
Witty or creative titles are welcome, but only if they are relevant and appropriate. Consider whether a title intended to provoke thought might be misinterpreted as offensive or alarming. In exceptional cases, the editorial team reserves the right to veto a title and suggest an alternative.
Authors should avoid, whenever possible:
- Titles that are simply a question without providing an answer.
- Titles lacking ambition, such as those beginning with "Toward," "A description of," "A characterization of," or "Preliminary study on."
- Vague titles, such as those starting with "Role of…," "Link between…," or "Effect of…" that fail to specify the role, link, or effect.
- Including irrelevant terms, such as the taxonomic affiliation alongside the species name.
For corrigenda, general comments, and editorials, manuscript titles should follow these formats:
- "Corrigendum: Title of the Original Article"
- General Comments:
- "Comment: Title of the Original Article"
- "Response: Comment: Title of the Original Article"
- "Editorial: Title of the Research Topic"
The running title must be no longer than five words.
Authors and Affiliations
All authors' names must be listed separated by commas. Authors must carefully provide the exact and correct names of each author, as these will be indexed in official databases. Affiliations should be marked with superscript numbers next to the author’s name and listed as follows: Laboratory, Institute, Department, Organization, City, State abbreviation, and Country (without detailed address information such as postal codes or street names).
Example:
Maria Rossi¹
¹ Department of Excellence, University of Science, Rome, Italy.
Correspondence
Corresponding authors must be marked with an asterisk (*) in the author list. The exact email address of the corresponding author(s) must be provided in a separate section.
Example: Maria Rossi
[email protected]
If any author wishes to include a change of address, please list the current address or addresses under the correspondence details using a unique superscript symbol linked to the respective author(s) in the author list.
Abstract
The primary goal of the abstract is to clearly convey the overall meaning and conceptual advancements of the work, making it accessible to a broad audience of readers. Avoid the use of abbreviations as much as possible, and refrain from citing references, figures, or tables in the abstract. To learn how to structure your abstract based on the article type, please refer to the "Article Types" page.
For clinical trial articles, include the unique trial number and the URL of the publicly accessible website where the study was registered.
Keywords
All article types must include a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8 keywords.
Text
The entire document should be single-spaced and must include page and line numbers to facilitate the review process. The manuscript should be prepared using Microsoft Word and must follow the Phenomena Journal template. For more details, please refer to the descriptions provided on the journal's "Article Types" page, accessible via the “About the journal” menu.
All manuscripts must contain the following required statements at the end of the paper, whether applicable:
- Conflict of Interest: All authors must disclose any personal and financial relationships with other people or organizations that could influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential competing interests include consultancies, employment, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications and registrations, and grants or other funding. Example of authors’ declaration of personal interests: (i) [Name of individual] has served as a speaker, a consultant and an advisory board member for [names of organizations] and has received research funding from [names of organization]. (ii) [Name of individual] is an employee of [name of organization]. (iii) [Name of individual] owns stocks and shares in [name of organization]. (iv) [Name of individual] owns patent [patent identification and brief description]. If authors do not have conflicts of interest to disclose, they should include the following sentence in this section: “The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest to disclose”.
- Funding: In this section, authors must list any funding sources and funding interests.
- Authors’ contributions: For transparency, authors are requested to provide a short paragraph indicating the individual contribution of each author following CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy).
- Example: [Author Name 1]: Conceptualization, Methodology, Writing – Original Draft Preparation.
- [Author Name 2]: Data Curation, Formal Analysis, Writing – Review & Editing.
- [Author Name 3]: Supervision, Funding Acquisition, Project Administration.
- Data availability statement: Authors must provide a statement about data availability in their articles containing original data. Data availability statements can take one of the following forms (or a combination of more than one of the following forms):
- The datasets generated during and/or analyzed during the current study are available in the repository [NAME], [PERSISTENT WEB LINK TO DATASETS].
- The datasets generated during and/or analyzed during the current study are not publicly available due [REASON WHY DATA ARE NOT PUBLICLY AVAILABLE] but are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.
- Data sharing does not apply to this article as no datasets were generated or analyzed during the current study.
- The datasets generated during and/or analyzed during the current study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.
- All data generated or analyzed during this study are included in this published article [and/or its supplementary material].
Guidelines for Figures and Tables
Figures must be submitted as separate files in the same order as they are referenced in the manuscript. Figures will be automatically inserted at the end of the submitted manuscript. Legends must be preceded by the appropriate label, such as "Figure 1," and should be placed at the end of the manuscript. Figure panels must be labeled with bold, uppercase letters in parentheses: (A), (B), (C), (D), etc.
Every figure must be mentioned in the text in numerical order. The Production Office may request high-resolution files of the figures included in the manuscript in EPS, JPEG, or TIF/TIFF format. To upload multiple figures at once, save the figures (labeled in the order they appear in the manuscript) in a zip file and upload them as "Supplementary Material Submission."
Please note that non-compliance with these guidelines may result in significant delays in the production process.
Artificial Intelligence
Phenomena Journal follows WAME recommendations, allowing the use of Artificial Intelligence for proofreading and grammar checking. Authors must disclose the use of artificial intelligence or any assistive technologies for text revisions in both the cover letter and a statement in a specific declaration at the end of the manuscript.
References
References must be numbered in the order they appear in the text (including citations within tables) and listed individually at the end of the manuscript.
In the text, reference numbers should be placed within square brackets [] and positioned before punctuation; for example, [1], [1–3], or [1,3]. For in-text citations with pagination, use both square brackets and parentheses to indicate the reference number and page numbers; for example, [5] (p. 10) or [6] (pp. 101–105).
Follow the APA style for bibliographic references as shown below:
"Author’s last name, first initial. (Year). Title in italics with only the first word capitalized and any proper nouns. City of publication: Publisher."
