Abstract
Recent research and reviews highlight the need to improve the National Sanitary System to adequately face the growing mental health care demands and to favor a reorganization of health systems aimed at implementing new treatment, prevention, and health promotion strategies. A stepped care model, composed of a low-intensity intervention with a high level of specificity, is the proposed tool to achieve this target. The treatment model for common emotional disorders proposed here is the first innovative implementation in a public health service of integrating psychological interventions in the primary care system according to the principle of collaborative and stepped care.
